Review:

There are a number of unforgettable characters that graced the screen’s hall of fame and became household items. Examples that come to mind include Indiana Jones, Inspector Clouseau, James Bond, Speagel (Lord of the Rings), Mulder (X files) , ET, and now the John Depp fascinating rendition of extravagant Jack Sparrow.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ is the incarnation of Disney’s famous ride into the silver screen and what a treat it is, packed with solid first class entertainment, exciting action sequences, and quite impressive special effects.

But have no doubt! Pirates of The Caribbean is first and above all Jack Sparrow as conceived by the genius of John Depp.

I admit of having had serious expectations of Depp’s performance. I have followed his career from his earlier work in the awesome ‘Edwards Scissorhand’ , ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’ and ‘Benny and June’ to one of my all time absolute favorites ‘Don Juan DeMarco’ to more recent work like ‘Sleepy Hollow’ and ‘Fear and Loathing in las Vegas’. And one thing I learnt about John. He studies, researches, lives, absorbs, and transforms into, whatever character he plays and the result is hardly less than fabulous. And so yes my expectations were high. And he managed to easily exceed them.
Depp reportedly strayed from Disney executives instructions on how Jack Sparrow should be and showed up on the set as a full gold teethed combo of extravagant Keith Richards and adventurous Errol Flynn. I am confident that Disney folks thank him now for that as his Sparrow gave them a new franchise and an adorably unforgettable character.

Depp’s performance is also buoyed by an excellent performance from Geoffrey Rush, a fine and capable actor himself as well as a good supporting cast in Bloom and tom-boyish-but-devilishly-cute Keira Knightley.

Aside from Sparrow and cast, there are some marvelous scenes most memorable being all these sword fighting skeleton pirates. Quite a sight to behold.

Pirates of The caribbean and Jack Sparrow are a must-see fabulous production that is highly entertaining and great fun.
